At United Dairy we recycle all we can to help the environment and keep our communities looking good.
First of all, every one of our dairy farms recycle by feeding the cows by-products such as: citrus peels, cottonseed, molasses, spent grains from distilleries, breweries, and ethanol plants, all kinds of grasses and forages. Cows convert these nutrients to milk. Dairy farms also excrete nutrients in the form of manure and urine. The nutrients in these waste products are very beneficial utilized as fertilizer for plants. The plants are grown and harvested, then stored on the farm and fed back to the cows. The cows produce milk and the cycle repeats.
We also use biofuel for our distribution, biodiesel is a biodegradable, combustible liquid fuel derived from vegetable oils or animal fats that meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) specifications D6751 and is suitable for blending with diesel fuel oil for use in internal combustion diesel engines.
Throughout our plant we are constantly looking for new ways to recycle and lower waste. Not only do we recycle all plastic and cardboard, we also reuse damaged lumber, scrap metal and oil. Some of the oil is used to heat parts of our facilities. |
